Nearly every city claims to be “a city of neighborhoods.” New Orleans is more a city of villages, some called faubourgs, each with distinct architecture, attitude, history and opportunities for exploration. The oldest of the city’s 72 neighborhoods is the French Quarter, founded in 1718, which feels the most Continental.
