The Santa Monica Pier has been beckoning L.A. locals to beachside fun since 1909.

The first concrete pier erected on the West Coast hosted running, boating and swimming events, even a live performance, on its first day. Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin made the Santa Monica Pier their playground, while a local sailor inspired the playful cartoon character “Popeye.” Seems like fun in Santa Monica is timeless because runners, bikers, surfers, beachcombers, amusement park fanatics and celebs still seek out this sunny surf town. Add foodie-friendly bars and restaurants, cool boutiques for the style-conscious, live music and everything in between; it’s impossible not to be amused by Santa Monica pier attractions.
