Barcelona is a stylish modern city situated on the Mediterranean, which means there is an excellent mix of Spanish and Catalan food available, along with what I really wanted to eat — seafood. Between touring La Boqueria and taking in La Sagrada Familia, during my around the world journey with Star Alliance and Marriott Traveler, these were were my best bites in Barcelona.
1. Squid and Eggs at El Quim De La Boqueria
Located within Barcelona’s La Boqueria market, El Quim is a tapas bar that serves an outstanding variety of little dishes including fried eggs topped in baby squid that you’ll cherish with every bite.

Open: 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Tuesday – Thursday, and 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Friday – Saturday (closed on Sunday and Monday)
2. Tapas at Ciudad Condal
Ciudad Condal is a modern tapas restaurant in Barcelona, and along with delicious mini plates of fried peppers and shoestring fried potatoes topped in eggs, the ambiance of sitting along the busy pedestrian street of La Rambla is what adds to the experience.

3. Lamb Cheeks at Can Vilaró
Can Vilaró is an amazing family run Barcelona neighborhood restaurant that serves excellent dishes like gazpacho and cap i pota, but the real stunner for me were the lamb cheeks.

4. Catalan Food at Restaurant Portolés
Another family owned and operated restaurant in Barcelona, Restaurant Portolés serves classic Catalan dishes including hearty home cooked style meats, potatoes, and tapas.

5. Sardines and Prawns at Can Maño
Seafood is important in Barcelona and Can Maño serves impressively fresh, simple, and delicious seafood including grilled prawns and sardines which are seasoned to perfection with olive oil, parsley, and garlic.
