If the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of party nights in Brazil is Rio de Janeiro, just wait to see São Paulo.
With over fifteen thousand bars, the economic capital of Brazil is a city that does not sleep, and that knows how to enjoy the sunset.
Sunsets at Praça Pôr do Sol
The night officially starts at sundown and, in a city crammed with buildings, it may seem difficult to sit and admire the spectacular show performed by nature. However, there is a place where it can be appreciated in all its grandeur.

Officially called Praça Coronel Custódio Fernandes Pinheiros, but known colloquially as Praça Pôr do Sol, or Sunset Square, this public park is the place to be for breathtaking views of the city before dusk. Located in Vila Madalena in the Pinheiros district, locals and tourists gather here to drink a beer over a picnic with loved ones.
Vila Madalena
Allow yourself to be seduced by one of the spots you pass, or go to Olívio Bar and have fun with their unusual drinks and fun presentations. Their drink flights, meant for sharing, come in containers that look like a science set, while your delicious fruity cocktail may come in a cup held in a volleyball or roller skate.
Pinheiros
This neighborhood is the center of its namesake district’s action, with a thriving arts and nightlife scene. At night, the action from the bars lining the streets spills out onto the sidewalks.
For a distinct cocktail experience, head underground to TAN TAN (or grab a sidewalk seat). This sleek subterranean spot is split between a cocktail bar and a Japanese-Brazilian restaurant, and the food and cocktails showcase ingredients and flavors from across Brazil’s five regions. The cocktail menu has a yearly-changing creative theme, and your experience will be exciting every time you visit.
Bar Brahma
The corner where the Ipiranga and São João avenues intersect, immortalized by Caetano Veloso in his melancholy hymn to the city, Sampa, is home to what one of the most well-known bars in all of São Paulo. This traditional bar has endless musical appeal, with nightly live performances and a constant buzz of swaying patrons.
Bar Brahma is a great place to go to listen to live music, grab a bite and, of course, enjoy a good pint — as Brahma is also the name of the country’s most popular beer.
D-Edge
If electronic music is your thing, you can’t miss visiting D-Edge, a temple to this genre. With live DJ sets three nights a week, D-Edge hosts the best DJs from around the world and boasts a spectacular sound system and LED-filled, futuristic interiors that have earned it international recognition. As a plus, it has a terrace where more than one patron sits to watch the sunrise.
