Treat Yourself

Create your own spa sanctuary with the right combination of products and accessories.

JW Revive Bath Shower Oil

Visiting a spa is about more than just getting a massage or a beauty treatment––it’s an immersive experience meant to relax and rejuvenate. The best destination hotel spas are designed to make you feel at ease with their signature scents, soft lighting and pampering products that make your skin glow.

The only problem is that when you need this relaxation the most—not on vacation—you may not have the right elements to set the proper mood. The good news is that you can create your own spa sanctuary in the privacy of your own home with the right combination of products and accessories.

Transform your bathroom

Making your bathroom feel like a spa retreat is easy if you implement a few key changes.

Switch out your basic showerhead with a heavenly rain one. Stepping under the cascading waterfall will make you feel like you’re in a relaxation wet room. Clear out the counter clutter and add a few sleek accessories like a contemporary vanity tray and minimalist mirror. For an additional project, on a day when you’re feeling extra productive: Paint the bathroom a calming shade of white, tan or blue.

You can also create your own steam room by turning up the hot water and adding a few drops of eucalyptus-scented oil to a washcloth for a scent filled sauna. (Pro tip: Refrigerate a wet washcloth to drape over your eyes while you’re lounging in the bath.)

Set the mood

Turn off the ringer and alerts on your phone, then choose a relaxing soundtrack, like the nature sounds you hear when you’re getting a spa treatment—whales, water and bird song are all great options.

Next, switch off glaring overhead lights and use candles to create a warm radiance. Aromatherapy candles infused with essential oils trigger relaxation with their scents. Be sure to look for natural essences, such as Shiso tea leaf, citrus, white mint, tuberose, gardenia, lily and lavender.

Sipping on a pitcher of fresh spring water with added slices of lemon and cucumber (or in the summer, strawberries and watermelon) will serve as a refreshing hydrator.

Indulge in pampering products

Fill your shower with products that indulge hair and skin from head to toe. Choosing bath and body sets with shampoos and conditioner, body wash and scented soap that immerse you in your favorite fragrance will make you feel like you splurged for a full-body make over. Look for products that offer nourishing and enriching ingredients, as well as soothing fragrances. (Especially good for parched skin are almond oil, olive oil, rosemary, marigold, thyme, basil and neroli.)

Asprey bath and body sets

Transform your tub into a rejuvenating and revitalizing treat for your skin with body wash, soaps, and bath oils made with replenishing ingredients such as aloe, pea extract and jojoba that will leave you with a radiant glow.

After the shower, soak your skin with an aromatherapy body and skin oil that nourishes and keeps you enveloped in a luxurious scent.

Wrap yourself in luxury

Stock the bathroom with thick white towels, the kind you find piled in the spa. And invest in a plush hotel robe to nestle into afterwards. Don’t forget to treat your feet; a pair of pillowy Frette slippers will make it feel like you’re walking on a cloud.

Sink into relaxation

One of the best parts of a spa experience is often the post-treatment relaxation space where you can put up your feet, sip a cup of tea and nibble treats until you’re ready to return to the real world.

To finish your home spa experience, indulge in gourmet chocolates (remember, dark chocolate is both a mood enhancer and an antioxidant) and invest in a luxurious throw blanket.

Then, close your eyes and bask in the relaxing results of your home spa experience.
