Beaches or Mountains: Where Will You Find Solace in the Caribbean and Latin America?

If you’re in need of a break from the stress of city life, you’re not the only one. Whether it is in the Chilean mountains or on a sunny tropical beach in the Caribbean, get ready to escape your daily grind and plan an unforgettable getaway where you’ll find a much needed moment of Zen and relaxation.

As always, check for travel restrictions and closures before planning your trip.

Barbados Beaches

White sand beaches and warm, pristine waters make Barbados a paradise of a destination, especially if you are looking for a place to rest and relax. Enjoy a beach free of loungers and chairs and away from the noise of vendors and Jet Skis. Head over to Ginger Bay, the ultimate deserted paradise.

Enclosed by towering limestone cliffs and surrounded by palms and turquoise water, Ginger Bay is one of the quietest beaches on the entire island. Take a swim in the tranquil waters of Paradise Beach, a wonderful spot for snorkeling enthusiasts, with shallow rock formations and a reef perfect for exploration.

Wherever you go, Barbados has a beach where you can disconnect from the hectic schedule and meetings of everyday life.

This ancient, stone-based Inca site will take you on a journey to the past. Machu Picchu remains a mystery to most people, with its perfectly carved giant stone structures built on a rugged and almost inaccessible mountain by the Incas.

Stepping into these mountains filled with what locals call “Pachamama’s secrets” (Mother Earth’s secrets), you will feel swept away by its magic. Embark on a tour for the day, where you can choose to trek up the mountain or arrive at the top of the lookout, and let Peru’s magic help you forget the stress of your city life.

There is no doubt that the Chilean Andes Mountains provide incredible opportunities to reconnect with nature. Within driving distance from Chile’s capital, Santiago, is Cajón del Maipo (Maipo Canyon), a majestic valley located in the middle of the range.

Visit the natural hot springs, Termas de Colina, where the magmatic activity of the San José Volcano heats the rising waters that spring from the pools, loaded with minerals and said to be beneficial for your health.

Ideal for people looking to find healing in nature, this natural hot spring also allows you to enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding Andes.

The Lost City; Santa Marta, Colombia

Considered one of the natural wonders of Colombia, the Lost City (Ciudad Perdida) is located in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a mountain rage covered in deep rainforest. Home to the Tayrona people, one of Colombia’s Indigenous communities, the Lost City is comprised of descending terraces and buildings in ruins. Four Indigenous communities still inhabit the area, preserving their traditions, dialects and culture.

To visit the Lost City, authorized tours depart from Santa Marta and include round-trip transportation, as well as official guides specialized in trekking and the culture of Indigenous peoples.

Immerse yourself in the Natural Pool of Aruba and visit the striking caves of Fontein, Huliba and Guadirikiri.

Turks and Caicos

Fall in love with the ocean in the Turks and Caicos islands, which sit on top of an underwater plateau, providing miles of unspoiled reefs perfect for diving and snorkeling.

Submerge yourself in the clear water of the Bight Reef in Providenciales, or go night snorkeling in Smith’s Reef — expect to see all kinds of different sea creatures that come out at night, like squid, sea snails and octopus.
