While New Orleans’ reputation hangs heavily on its world-class music and cuisine, one of its best kept secrets is its local shopping. In recent years, the city has seen an influx of small boutiques and retailers that keep residents and visitors alike at the forefront of fashion. With so many options to choose from, it may be difficult to decide the best places to visit. Luckily, we’ve done the hard work for you, narrowing down the multitude of choices to this short-but-sweet list of the Crescent City’s most fashionable shops.

Housed in the city’s Warehouse District, Haute is the brainchild of owner Sanja Alickovic. This contemporary collection combines classic looks with a rocker-chic vibe, allowing her the opportunity to showcase emerging designers alongside the most popular. Brands carried include Mason by Michelle Mason, Mara Hoffman and AG Jeans. Since no outfit is complete without the right accessories, Alickovic also attention curates to jewelry, offering unique pieces from designers like Dora Mae Jewelry and Alkemie.

When Exodus Goods quietly opened last April, fashion insiders excitedly flocked to the new French Quarter locale to check out pieces from labels like Ace & Jig, Brother Vellies and Anatomy Project. Co-owned by sisters Darlene and Lizzy Okpo, along with Armina Mussa, it’s the perhaps the store’s fourth co-owner and creative director who has generated the most buzz — Solange Knowles. However, Knowles association has done little to distract from the carefully-curated fashions carried within its industrial-inspired walls.

Fashion-forward male travelers don’t have to worry about feeling left out thanks to Friend. Located in New Orleans’ famed Garden District, this contemporary shop offers a great collection of ready-to-wear designer gear, accessories and shoes by A.P.C., Burkman Brothers, Santana Social Club and more. The minimalist decor and layout makes it easy to take in the store’s selections without distraction.

If you have a more laid-back approach to fashion, be sure to make your way to this denim speciality store. In addition to carrying denim brands such as True Religion, Current/Elliott and J Brand, the Jeantherapy also clothing options for the entire family, making it a true one-step destination. Founded by siblings Steven and Vicki Adjmi, the store has five locations in total, with three within the greater New Orleans area, including the French Quarter, Uptown New Orleans and Metairie.
