Of course, Fiji is not just for lovers. But it’s absolutely ideal for a romantic escape. The South Seas are the perfect backdrop for romance, with nothing between you and your significant other save for verdant vistas and cerulean seas.

Give your Fiji romantic getaway a love-filled touch by making time for some of these escapades. As always, check for travel guidelines and closures before planning your trip.

Sunsets with a Twist

The South Seas are synonymous with sunset sailing. Try something traditional: a twilight tour via drua, the sail-driven double canoe long used by Fijian mariners. The i Vola Sigavou, run by the Drua Experience, is the only sailing drua in the world, built in 2016 so as to keep Fiji’s seafaring history alive.

Voyages are intimate: The drua fits 10 people at most, so the crew will share bowls of kava with you while sharing stories and historical lore. For an on-land learning experience, visitors can opt for the Fiji Museum, where you can catch the striking Ratu Finau drum on display.

Love, Lunch and Chocolate

Eager to explore the stomach/heart nexus? Try Fish Bar, an oceanside restaurant with freshly caught seafood from the Momi Bay waters that surround you in panoramic views. Clink a lovely cocktail and catch a sunset with your love in an impossibly romantic scene.

If your romantic dreams are chocolate driven, try the Vanua Chocolate factory tour and pick up some single-origin bars with notes of sea salt or chili and made from Fijian cacao 100% sourced from local farmers.

On Horseback, in the Highlands

Horseback tours traverse the gently sloping volcanic hills of the Nausori Highlands, at the heart of Viti Levu. Views along the route run from verdant valleys to glimpses of the far-off Mamanuca and Yasawa archipelagos — best seen from a saddle.

Slowly walking a steed through the landscape makes a person immersed in Fiji’s natural beauty, and in sharing the experience with the one they love.

Romantic Strolls and Serene Spas

Lavish your partner with a five-star experience at the Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, set in Viti Levu’s serene and isolated southwest. Savor a couples spa treatment, stroll hand in hand along the white sand beach, or just stare at the Pacific from an airy, spacious overwater bure perched over an azure lagoon.

Repeat the spa/stroll experience, albeit more casually, in the nearby town of Nadi. Soak the toxins from your skin with a mud bath at the naturally heated Sabeto Mud Springs, and then go for an amble at the neighboring Garden of the Sleeping Giant, a verdant botanical garden at the base of the Sabeto Range. Walk amid lily ponds and more than a thousand species of orchids, whose beauty will almost rival that of your partner. Almost.

Search for Fiji’s Flower of Love

In legend, the tagimoucia, Fiji’s national flower, sprang from the vibrant red tears of a princess who ran away to the mountains when denied her true love. Searching out this rare romantic blossom is a perfect amorous adventure.

After a voyage to the garden island of Taveuni, summit a nearly 2,600-foot-above-sea-level peak to Lake Tagimaucia, formed at the center of an island from a volcano’s crater. Amid butterflies and exotic birds, you’ll find the only place on Earth where the flower grows.

A trip to Taveuni is also a chance to explore the stunning rainforest in the Bouma National Heritage Park, which houses the volcanic Uluinggalau Mountain, the island’s highest peak. Don’t forget to pack your bathing suits to dive in the spray of the gorgeous Tavoro Waterfalls for an unforgettable romantic day.
