The resurgence of art deco in hotel design trends can be appreciated everywhere from the obvious spots — along Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue in Miami’s South Beach and the streets of Manhattan, for example — to lesser-known locales in Texas and Mexico.

And where an aesthetic steeped in the 20th century meets modern glamour and culminates in a luxury hotel, an escape with a true sense of place of awaits.

JW Marriott Essex House New York

One of Manhattan’s most iconic hotels (with its legendary red neon sign topping the building), the JW Marriott Essex House New York underwent a $38 million transformation that leveled up the comforts and class while paying homage to the historic property’s art deco heritage.

Guests enter the Central Park South hotel through gilded deco doors into a lobby moody with dark wood paneling and checkerboard floors that ooze bygone glamour.

Rooms offer subtly themed art deco vibes, with carpeting in geometric patterns and white lacquer, polished chrome and bronze touches throughout. In the hotel’s beaux arts Grand Salon, dazzling chandeliers and hand-painted murals steal the show.

Prince de Galles, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Paris

Located on Paris’ elegant Avenue Georges V, just a five-minute stroll from the Champs-Elysées, Prince de Galles, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Paris has hosted such famous guests as Sir Winston Churchill and Marlene Dietrich.

The grand property’s art deco roots date to 1929 when the hotel first opened in the 8th arrondissement as a prime example of the Parisian art deco movement. Renovations in 2013 kept the original spirit alive with touches like mirrored walls, marble bathrooms with mosaics inspired by the era, and lacquered furnishings everywhere.

One of Texas’ finest examples of a historic art deco hotel that’s been updated with a modern design, The Sinclair, Autograph Collection in Forth Worth makes for an atmospheric stay close to Sundance Square and the Fort Worth Convention Center.

Originally built in the 1930s as an office space, the hotel retains a stylish deco-pop aesthetic inside and out — from its original decorative zigzag moderne facade to geometric flourishes in the rooms and the original flooring and coved ceilings that greet guests in the hotel’s main arcade.

Hôtel de Tourrel, Saint Rémy de Provence, a Member of Design Hotels delivers an escapist Art Deco ambience within a restored 17th-century palais.

The original high-ceilinged building in Saint Remy de Provence in Southern France was stripped to its bones to create seven spectacular suites with floor-to-ceiling windows and parquet floors.

The sleek metal and color-pop furnishings within by ClassiCon designers Eileen Gray and Konstantin Grcic complete the setting.

Casa Habita, Guadalajara, a Member of Design Hotels

If you’ve stayed at another Grupo HABITA hotel in Mexico or New York, you’ll recognize signature elements, including the retro-inspired bar and pool, at this hotel occupying a 1940s art deco mansion in Guadalajara’s trendy and tree-lined Lafayette neighborhood.

The mid-20th-century facade of Casa Habita, Guadalajara, a Member of Design Hotels was returned to its retro look inside with concrete, marble, brass and glass everywhere and bright pops of color that remind you that you’re in Mexico. Amenities include a solarium, terrace restaurant, spa and rooftop swimming pool.

Settle into this boutique hotel in the heart of Beverly Hills for an iconic Southern California stay. Built in 1949, the Avalon Hotel Beverly Hills, a Member of Design Hotels was brought up to date by famed lifestyle designer Kelly Wearstler, who deftly mixed Old Hollywood sophistication with art deco influences and the property’s 1950s heritage.

The boomerang-shaped swimming pool is flanked by cozy nooks decorated with bold geometric patterns, and the long marble bar inside beckons guests to sidle up to sip something frosty. Come for an urban oasis secreted away within a quiet Beverly Hills neighborhood that happens to be within walking distance of some of L.A.’s best shopping and dining.

Miami Beach’s art deco bounty really needs no introduction. But even in a sea of spectacularly restored buildings, The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach, which emerged from a $90 million renovation, stands apart.

The oceanfront hotel is set within a landmark art deco building from the 1950s that gazes out on an enormous pool and the glittering turquoise sheen of the Atlantic Ocean.

Inside, the lobby’s Lapidus Bar serves up classic cocktails and live music and takes its name from famed art deco–era architect Morris Lapidus, who originally designed the hotel.
