A satisfying breakfast is always music to one’s taste buds. From modern takes on eggs and pancakes to Balinese babi guling, or suckling pig, the island’s morning pit stops deliver an impressive lineup of adventurous fare to rise and shine to. Top quality coffee, and a sneaky cocktail or two, often complete the delicious picture.

Here are some of our favorite Bali breakfasts with a twist.

Staying healthy on the island is easy with restaurants such as the Earth Café, which cater to those with a penchant for healthy living and high quality organic food.

The Scrambled Tofu à la Matan, a dish of marinated and sautéed tofu with turmeric, scallion, cherry tomato, onion, mushroom and tamari served with rye bread and homemade ketchup comes highly recommended.

Bloody Mary at REMEDE Spa

Those wishing to start their morning with a bang can try St Regis’ signature Bloody Mary Ritual at REMEDE Spa. Inspired by the iconic cocktail, the treatment includes a tomato, pineapple and wasabi massage and a vodka, tomato and clay body wrap.

The sumptuous experience ends with a tomato, vermouth and mineral salt bath, with a Bloody Mary on the side.

Smoothies at Nalu Bowls

Nalu Bowls serves up the perfect beachside breakfast. Named after famous waves from around the world, each brekkie consists of a delicious smoothie topped with healthy extras such as granola, goji berries, exotic fruit, chia seeds, bee pollen, coconut flakes, honey and nuts.

Babi Guling at Selingsing Cepaka

Exclusively for the early risers, Selingsing Cepaka only serves its babi guling, or suckling pig, from 4 am to 9 am. Each morning, a local family roasts whole spiced pigs onsite, ensuring that the crispy skin and tender pork are at their freshest.

The majority of customers at the warung (small eatery) are Balinese with the occasional tourist thrown into the mix.

While fried eggs might sound like a pretty boring start to the day, this is definitely not the case at Sisterfields. Hold onto your belts because these fried eggs come with hummus, zucchini, green olives, pistachio tapenade, garlic butter, mint, dill and house made lavosh crackers.

Airy and modern, the Australia-inspired cafe serves all day breakfast, meaning that you can order your coffee, juice and eggs until 10 p.m.

Pancakes at Spicy Coconut

Vegans will be pleased to know that the Spicy Coconut serves a full menu of delights free from mean and animal products. Not just good for your body, but also for the soul and taste buds, the café’s treats include burgers, Mexican fare and salads.

Go all out with pancakes made from coconuts, dates and bananas, served with fresh fruit and salty coconut caramel sauce.

Chia Seed Pudding at Shelter Cafe

Healthy and packed with flavor, Shelter Café’s “chia me up” pudding comes with vanilla and coconut cream soaked chia seeds, tropical fruit puree and raspberry reduction, as well as bananas topped with ground mixed nuts, fresh berries and coconut flakes.

Alternatively, food connoisseurs can design their own breakfast by selecting how they like their eggs and picking from a range of enticing side dishes.

Caffeine kick at Seniman Coffee Studio

Those wishing to sample some of Indonesia’s top brews should make a beeline for the Seniman Coffee Studio. Made from single-origin coffee beans from Papua, Sulawesi, Java, Sumatra and Bali, Seniman’s coffees are as delicious as they are varied.

From lattes and cappuccinos to cold presses and pour overs, each of the café’s artisan coffees comes served on a paddle alongside a glass of water and small Balinese snack.
