If you live for infectious beats and good vibes, here are some musical hot spots that deserve a place on your bucket-list.

As always, check for travel guidelines and closures before planning your trip.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

On any given weekend night, Changkat, the buzziest street in Kuala Lumpur’s Bukit Bintang district, comes alive to the sounds of high-energy DJ sets and soulful live performances, including Tamil film music and peppy Bollywood numbers, emanating from the dozens of pubs and bars lining the street. And then there are the intimate lounge bars like Bobo KL and Jao Tim that offer scintillating live jazz performances throughout the week.

For a taste of social energy, check into W Kuala Lumpur. Head straight to the WET Deck rooftop bar and sip poolside cocktails while the DJs spin chilled-out house beats. Be sure to take a moment to soak in the unparalleled views of the Petronas Twin Towers, gloriously illuminated at night.

Also in the bustling commercial district is The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur, which houses the famous Astor Bar, seen in the hit film “Crazy Rich Asians.” From traditional jazz to modern classics, the regular weekly performances — not to mention the bespoke cocktails — ensure it stays popular among locals.

Jakarta, Indonesia

Indonesia’s capital offers a heady mix of art, music, and culture, with the annual Joyland Music Festival attracting huge crowds to enjoy indie music acts, stand-up comedy, film screenings, and workshops for both kids and adults. The annual Java Jazz Festival, featuring Indonesian and international acts, is gaining in popularity each year, attracting music lovers from all over the region.

Between the big festivals, locals gather at creative hubs like M Block Space, which hosts regular live performances, and Pasar Santa, which has evolved into a market for vinyl records, vintage clothes, and street food.

Check into Aloft Jakarta Wahid Hasyim, known to regularly showcase up-and-coming local musicians at its social spaces like w xyz bar, giving fans a chance to listen to their favorite artists in a cozy setting. Aloft Jakarta Kebon Jeruk also hosts live music at the Live At Aloft stage at its w xyz rooftop bar.

Goa, India

While Mumbai is the home of Bollywood and the beating heart of India’s music industry, Goa has been marching to the beat of its own drum for several decades now. Dozens of beachside clubs and bars across this tiny coastal state are known as much for their party music as they are for their potent cocktails.

Check out laid-back spaces like Cohiba and Hideaway, which showcase the best local talent. For live DJ sets that prompt you to hit the dance floor, you can’t go wrong with old favorites like Tito’s and Mambo’s in Baga.

For easy access to the electrifying buzz of nightlife in neighborhoods like Anjuna and Calangute, book a room at the conveniently located JW Marriott Goa. For an on-site music scene, W Goa is your spot. Sip craft cocktails while listening to live music at Rockpool or mingle at Woobar.

Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok’s club scene has always been thrilling, but it’s only getting bolder and better now with new openings every year. One of the latest comes in the form of FVTURE, which boasts space for a whopping 6,000 revelers. With almost 5,400 square feet of mesmerizing LED light displays on the walls and ceiling, this “hyperclub” feels like a year-round festival. It’s joining the ranks of other recent heavy hitters like Atlas Super Club and MUIN, which are already making waves among both locals and visitors.

Melbourne, Australia

While Sydney may have the Bondi Beach glamor, Melbourne is considered by many to be Australia’s live music capital, with a diverse mix of indie, rock, jazz, and electro sounds. The stages are as varied as the music itself, from folksy trad tunes in old-school Irish pubs to classical concerts in parks and gardens.

In the heart of the CBD, The Westin Melbourne sits right next to the nearly century-old Regent Theatre. It’s also within easy walking distance of Federation Square and Flinders Street if you’re in the mood to catch buskers on the streets. Plus, it’s just steps away from Forum Melbourne, the city’s premier music venue known for its impressive lineup of music, theater, and comedy acts. Also in the CBD is W Melbourne, where Curious — a stunning subterranean space inspired by “Alice in Wonderland” — serves up creative cocktails and themed DJ nights.

Xiamen, China

This scenic coastal city in Fujian Province just might be the coolest city in China that you have never heard of. Xiamen derives much of its coolness quotient from its thriving creative music scene, which can be enjoyed at local pubs, lounges, and karaoke bars, especially along Binlang Bar Street.

Catch local talent performing in popular venues like Real Live at Shapowei, an old seafood-processing factory that has found new life as a hub for art and culture.

Just a short ferry ride away is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Gulangyu. This pedestrian-only zone is also known as “Piano Island” because of its historical connection with the instrument, introduced by British merchants and diplomats in the 19th century.

Within town, Courtyard by Marriott Xiamen, Xiang’an is ideally located in the commercial district of Xiang’an, making it conveniently close to dining and nightlife.
