Besides its countless beautiful beaches, Puerto Vallarta offers some very interesting options when it comes to food. When you stay at an all-inclusive there are many decisions that have already been made for you, like where to have breakfast, for example.

However, Puerto Vallarta is a destination that lends itself for exploring at length, so we recommend you leave the hotel once in a while and dive right into the town’s culinary scene. These are some of the best options for breakfast in Puerto Vallarta, whether you’re an early riser or more of a brunch fan.

Coco’s Kitchen

This small oasis for breakfast lovers hides in a cozy backyard full of plants and umbrellas that offer shelter from the sun. Without a doubt, the French toast and pancakes are the stars of the menu. You can order them in a wide variety of styles: they can be topped with mascarpone cheese, lemon custard and almonds, or prepared resembling a cinnamon roll or a churro with cajeta (a Mexican caramel sauce similar to dulce de leche).

If you crave something savory, order the huevos rancheros or the chilaquiles with salsa verde for a taste of Mexico, or opt for some delightfully creamy eggs Benedict with bacon. If you’re recovering from the night before, don’t hesitate to order a refreshing mimosa, and make sure you arrive before 3 pm so you can still order from the breakfast menu.

Salud Super Food

Get off to a healthy start at this tiny spot located in the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta. You’ll find wraps and sandwiches for breakfast, such as the croissant filled with scrambled eggs, spinach and bacon, as well as healthy quinoa bowls with kale and Asian-inspired flavors.

The smoothies menu has even more options than the food menu, which also has veggie burgers and soups. The vibe is relaxed and casual, you can order at the counter, fast-food style, and the waiters will bring the order to your table.

Fredy’s Tucan

Fredy’s Tucan occupies a large venue decorated with paintings of tropical birds, including several of —yes, you guessed it— toucans. The menu is quite extensive and composed of breakfast staples that you’d expect to find in the United States and Mexico, from eggs Benedict and a stack of blueberry pancakes to chilaquiles with salty cecina steak.

While the menu may not be overly innovative, the dishes are well-executed, the portions are generous, and there are enough options to keep you coming to try new things for days.

La Palapa

This restaurant has a privileged location on Playa Los Muertos, one of the best known beaches in Puerto Vallarta. Ask for a table directly on the sand and enjoy breakfast while watching the rolling waves.

The blue crab eggs Benedict with chipotle hollandaise sauce are a delight, as are the eggs La Palapa, served au gratin with three types of cheese on a corn tortilla. Regardless of the time of day, order a fresh coconut to go with your meal, it’s one of the greatest pleasures of being on a Mexican beach.

Mango’s Beach Club

The restaurant at Mango’s Beach Club faces the sea, and it’s very close to the famous Malecón boardwalk. Their Sunday brunch will greet you with a mimosa and the bread is fresh from the oven.

Order chilaquiles or a torta ahogada sandwich while you look at the ocean. They even have mariachis to complete the Mexican experience. After lunch you can go to the beach club and continue to enjoy your Sunday lounging on a comfortable beach chair.
