Thousands of tourists come to Mexico year after year to meet sea turtles in Puerto Vallarta. It’s said that this destination is the “country of the sea turtles”, since six of the existing species are found in this place.

During the second semester of the year, sea turtles spawn in Puerto Vallarta. About 45 days after the mother turtles lay their eggs on the beach and return to the sea, the baby turtles are born and come to the surface.

During the season, special celebrations are carried out —guided by marine biologists— to help the newborn turtles make it safely to the sea. Don’t forget to participate in the release of sea turtles during your next stay in Puerto Vallarta.

Here’s a guide on what you need to know if you want to see this natural phenomenon:

1. Choose a Hotel That’s Committed to the Conservation of Sea Turtles

Since its inception, Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa has always maintained a commitment to sea turtles. The hotel has its own biologist overseeing all volunteer activities with the guests, who are integral to the conservation of the turtles. Ask your concierge if you want to participate in the rescue program.

2. Plan Your Trip to Coincide With the Turtle’s Hatching Season

The sea turtle’s hatching season runs from June to December. This gives you a lot of time to visit Puerto Vallarta and witness this unique experience.

3. Inquire About Activities Taking Place During Your Visit

For more than 10 years, Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa has been a leader in the conservation of sea turtles. Their activities vary depending on the season, so we recommend you call in advance to know what activities will be carried out when you plan to visit, and ask them which ones are open for your family to participate in.
